ARCELYN is 25 years old, a single mother of a 4-year-old son. She is a High School graduate. Due to poverty, she did not finish her studies. Instead, she worked as a helper in Mania from 2018 to 2020. She worked for a Filipino family in a 2 storey house. Her Sir and Madam were both working, and both were very busy at work. Her Madam was working as a staff member in Shngari-la Hotel while her Sir was a property agent. They had entrusted their child to her. She has looked after the child since he was 1 year old. Only she and the child would be at home. In the mornings, she would prepare their breakfast like fried egg, fried rice, sandwiches, or oats, and make coffee or Milo. In the afternoon, she would cook food for herself and for the child. In the evenings, she would cook dinner for the family and sometimes the couple had eaten before going back home. She cooked like fish soup, pork soup, stir-fry vegetables, fried fish, fried chicken, chicken adodo, humba, beef steaks, pancit (fried noodles), to name a few. When the child was sleeping, she would like to take the opportunity to clean the house while the washing machine was on. Once the washing machine was done, she would hang the clothes and continue cleaning the house. In the evenings, before she goes to sleep, she would iron and fold the clothes. She left her job because she got pregnant. From 9 Nov 2024 to 9 Nov 2025, she was working as a waiter/server in a Thai restaurant. Her job was to serve, make sure that the food ordered were all delivered and put nicely on the table, collect the dishes whenever the custumer/s was/were done, and clean the area. She finished her contract, and she has decided to apply to work in Singapore to earn more for the future of her son. Her mother and siblings will help her to take care of her child while she is away.
